Hi Doodlebug,

I saw a little girl with her family last night at a steak house. She was about 10 or 11 months old. Her brother, who was about 4, was dressed in khaki's, shirt, red vest and plaid bow tie. The little girl had on red leather mary janes, red & white striped tights and a little red dress. Her hair was braided in two tiny braids. When I looked at her I couldn't help but think this is what you will be like at Christmas next year. I was absolutely mesmerized by her. She was so adorable and it was so interesting watching her interact with her big brother and her parents. She must have sensed me watching her because she looked at me, then smiled and when her family was being seated and her daddy picked her up to carry her to their table, she blew kisses to me all the way to the table. She was so precious and it made me long for you.Your mommy and daddy have been working on your room and have all kinds of new furniture to welcome you to your new home.Keeping your name is one of the hardest secrets I have ever had to keep, but so far I have done pretty well! You are moving around a lot and kicking mommy quite a bit. I think you are just anxious to come play with all of us. Even though you (probably) won't be here to see your Christmas presents, you will get to enjoy them soon after. So you take care and keep growing and getting ready for an amazing journey that will bring you to amazing parents.  All my love and prayers, Mimsi

Hey!

Hey Doodlebug! How are you doing? Everytime I look at your first sono pic, I see you just sitting there with your little arms and legs. Just sitting there, growing, and waiting. I wonder what goes through your mind while you are there in your own little warm world. I know you like to suck on your thumb and fingers. I know that you are getting very good at tumbling and rolling around. I know you are drinking. I wonder if you find it fun to tumble and play? Your mama says you can be pretty feisty...well, you come by that naturally! It seems like you really like sweets. I wonder if you give any thought to what you are going to do, or what you think about when you wake up? I know you don't really think about all of us yet who are getting ready for you, but I wonder if you think about you mama when you hear her voice? So much of your personality is already there in you and we are pretty excited to get to know it. I close my eyes and dream of your face and wonder if you will really look like what I think you will? It will be the longest drive of my life to get to come see you! You have received so many beautiful things to help prepare for your arrival, and all kinds of things to make raising you a charm! You are getting ready to move, though for you the environment won't change all that much. You parents are painting your room and getting all the furniture ready for their sweet little doodlebug! I hope you have fun tumbling and twirling and sucking your thumb. Can't wait to see you!  All my love, Mimsi

Doodlebug

Dear Doodlebug, I have a new nickname for you, can you figure out what it is;) Wow, what a big weekend for you! You received so many beautiful things this weekend. At a fun party on Saturday, your aunts honored your mommmy & daddy with a fun shower and you received a very helpful bouncer, a wonderful play mat, and so many helpful clothes, health items, safety devices, beautiful clothes, hair accessories and even a crocheted afghan that someone made for you. Then on Sunday your mommie's church family honored you all with a wonderful shower. You received so many beautiful clothes & hair adornments, you will be the best dressed baby in all of Oklahoma:) You got shoes and bathtubs, towels, robes, wash cloths, quilts, pillows, books, toys, KSU stuff, dresses, jeans, shirts, sleepers, cardigans, layette gowns and a ton of other things.  After the shower someone stopped by the house with a small bag. When your mommy opened it, it was another beautiful afghan that this dear friend had made for you, in all pastel colors, which you will come to realize are your mommie's very favorite colors. You must be excited about it all, because you leaped around and kicked! Maybe you could sense everyone's excitement thinking about your arrival:) Both of your grandma's were there and both of your aunts were there. When you are older, you will get to see all the pictures. Our entire family feels very blessed by the kindness of family and friends. Only 9 and 1/2 more weeks till we get to see you!  All my love, Mimsi

Overcome

Dearest Little Granddaughter, We had a lot going on last weekend. We had people coming on Friday, people coming on Saturday, dinner dates, lunch dates. Your grandpa drove 8 hours to pick your mama up and take her to the Dr. appointment and bring her home for the weekend. I was at home making all kinds of food, decorating cookies, making cupcakes and more cookies. I had my phone near me, though, covered in flour, because it was a very important day for me. It was the day we were going to find out if you were a he or a she. Your mama texted me that the Dr. said clearly you are a little girl.  I was completely overcome with emotion, and I don't know why. Maybe because it was a bit of a roller coaster thinking first your parents wanted a boy, then we thought you were a girl, then the Dr. said she was unsure and you might be a boy, and then finally, finally, we find out you are a girl! I thought to myself "I am glad I am alone because everyone would think I am crazy, sitting in the living room all by myself crying my eyes out." It was at that moment that your mama called me and I think she wondered why in the world I was crying, and I wondered, too. She will probably understand some day. All I know is that I was overcome with emotion at the amazing, miraculous, wondrous thought of you! Sending my love and kisses to you, Mimsi

September 23, 2011

So....you are just full of surprises, aren't you?  Little do you know we are sneaking some peaks into your world. You sort of have the Dr.'s baffled, though, because they are second guessing your gender. On the second sonogram they told us you are a girl. Now they are not so sure! Your little antics prevented any clear decisions. That's ok, we can wait. One thing we could see clearly: you are sucking  your little thumb! How cute is that? And how much like your mommy, who was sucking her two middle fingers on her very first photo, and still was when she was born. I've already advised your parents to get you an orthodontic pacifier, so they may be spared the K it takes to straighten those teeth:) Also, your face is looking more like your mama's..."determined little chin"!! I guess you already like posing for pictures because the Dr. has ordered a FOURTH sonogram for you!  Maybe next month you will be a little cooperative and let us know some more of the mystery surrounding you! Can't WAIT to hold you, All my love, Mimsi

Dear Granddaughter,

I bought my first gifts for you today. They are completely personalized, so no other baby in the world will have exactly what you are receiving! Of course, they can't be TOO personal yet, because your parents are waiting to tell us your name! They had names chosen if you were a boy, but now that you surpeesed them, they have to go back to the drawing board and retool. So I can't get anything with your name or initials....yet! But my friend Christie and I put our heads together and managed to come up with some fabulousa things for you. You also got a pair of zebra stripe boots with hot pink trim! Won't you look adorable in those? Grandma Waugh just couldn't resist! I had found some pretty cute boy clothes, but guess I will wait to get those. For now, I will get back to looking at tutus and headbands, hats and shoes. I hope you are enjoying growing, and working on your fabulous mane! You are probably beginning to suck your little fingers or toes, too. Looking so forward to January! Can't wait to kiss you, Love, Mimsi

You Are A Little Girl!

I am so happy and excited! I told your mama you were going to be a girl. I thought you were, and you are! Both of your grandmas and grandpas are so excited! Your daddy's parents only had boys, so you will be a new adventure for them. Of course, we know all about little girls and have saved many precious things to share with  you: blankets, shoes, dresses!  I'm sure you will get lots of new things too and if you inherit your aunt's sense of fashion, which I am sure you will, you will know all about how to incorporate new and vintage! You will learn about the farm and animals, and the church and movies, reading and english, Harry Potter and Beatrix Potter! You have so many people waiting to hold you, who love you already!! You just take your time growing and thriving in your warm, safe, snug little environment and we will do the best we can to take care of your mommy and daddy, and can't wait to welcome you with arms wide open!  Love, Grandma=)

Growing Along

Baby is growing right along.  My daughter and her husband are really hoping the gender is a boy, and can hardly wait a month to find out. I started out hoping it was a girl. I have had girls, I am use to girls, we have many little girl clothes to share, and I just thought it would be a girl. However.....after seeing the 4-D sonogram, I sort of get the feeling it is a boy. I am a little surprised at how excited I am at the prospect of a boy, but, of course, either way will be thrilling.  His momma had to have a wisdom tooth extracted this week, so we were all relieved when the Doctor told them that the heartbeat is strong and he is growing right along (at the beginning I called him "her" all the time, mostly to tease his mother, but now I strongly feel he is a "him" and have been referring to him as so). You will be the first to know once I find out the gender, and you may notice my background changed from blue to pink, but for now, and for about a month, I will continue with the blue and continue to think of the baby as a him. I love looking at his little limbs and face and wondering about him. I love checking the growth progress and seeing what new developments he accomplishes each month. I think he is about 15 weeks old so far. He is already changing our holiday plans a bit, since his parents won't be able to travel for Christmas, but that is just fine-we will take Christmas to them, and then in January, we will come back to meet him....or her!

My first grandchild is on the way! It is 11 weeks along. It just got the first 4D sonogram photos. My breath literally caught in my throat when I saw it! To see this detail so early is absolutely amazing. To feel such love for this little thing floating in the image is overwhelming! It already has a brain, eyes, fingers and toes.  I am so excited for each step of this journey. I am grateful to my daughter and son-in-law for sharing this with me. The amazing thing: the culmination of this journey is just the beginning! Just an ordinary miracle blessing my life!
